January Update

Whew, I finally got my spreadsheets put back together. January was not as great as I had hoped, but at least we went down overall, which is the important thing. February should be much better, with some overtime from DH, some bonuses I am getting, pet sitting money I am owed, late birthday money, and other 'found' money coming in. Since August 1st, 2009, we have paid off $6357. By February 28th, I would like this figure to be $8400.
DH and I have agreed to do two 'bare minimum' weekends in February, as we call them. Basically, we just try to keep spending at a minimum for the whole weekend. We do extremely cheap or free dates like having a movie night with borrowed movies, cooking out, working out together, or hiking. By doing a cheap date and not eating out, we save $50 that we normally would have spent. Doing this twice in February will give us an extra hundred to send to that debt. I know some might think we should be having a bare minimum life until all of our debt is gone, but I (and DH) would rather pay a few extra months on the debt and still get to enjoy doing fun, new stuff together.
The weight loss is going better than I expected. Since January 1st, I have lost 9.4 pounds. I feel as if I finally have my eating under control. Working out is next on the list to conquer. I am also down to one 16 ounce glass of Diet Mountain Dew a day, which is a miracle considering I was literally drinking a two liter every single day. This is not only helping my body, but it is saving us money too! I want to be at 170 by May 1st. This would put my BMI back in the healthy range. Granted, it would be the upper end, but the healthy range none the less!

  1. Hooo wee, that's interesting you count upwards of how much you paid off instead of counting down the balance. Maybe it's more motivating!

  2. I think it is a little less intimidating for me that way!
